Berlin's Terri Nunn Goes Portable
Berlin frontwoman Terri Nunn lit the fires of a
couple of up- and- coming local boys when she joined
L.A.-based alternative rock band Portable in a North
Hollywood, Calif. studio on Tuesday (April 6). Nunn
laid down the female parts of a new song entitled
"Boy Girl" for Portable's upcoming TVT Records
debut, set for release in June and produced by Matt
Wallace (Faith No More, Paul Westerberg).
"She was so full of energy," exclaims Portable singer
Chance, who professed his love for Nunn and Berlin
during the session. "She really dug the song and
spent a decent amount of time just getting into the
lyrics and figuring them out. She's just a pro."
Later, Chance held his own in the studio when the
band and Nunn jammed on two old Berlin tracks,
"Pictures of You" and "Now It's My Turn," both from
1984's Love Life.
Portable's manager originally envisioned ex-Concrete
Blonde singer Johnette Napolitano for the part, but
when she declined and suggested Nunn, Chance was
ecstatic. Coincidentally, Napolitano and Nunn have
recently collaborated on two new songs for Berlin's
forthcoming new album.
